Britain, Britain, Britain!

I'm headed to Manchester and Auld Reekie for a little vacation for the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to sampling the various cakes offered up at my Scottish Hotel:

While I'm there, one of my favourite Manchester bands, I AM KLOOT, will be playing at the Carling Academy in Liverpool, a short jaunt from the home of my Mancunian host.

I'm also looking forward to hitting Air Traffic, who will be playing in Edinburgh while I'm there. I recently discovered them, and I'm pretty excited about hearing them in concert.

Off to pack!

I'm a Researcher!

So, according to the Library of Congress, I'm a researcher now. On a lark, I went to the Library of Congress this weekend to see the new entrance to the spectacular Great Hall, and of course the ceiling.

It was magnificent!

Also, the exhibits in the new Library of Congress Experience are worth seeing. They have one of the four remaining perfect vellum Gutenberg Bibles in existence. Also on display is the Waldseemüller map, the only original copy known to still exist. The map accurately charts latitude and longitude, and also is the first map to name the New World, "America".

Oh, and the reader card! It's required to get into the main reading room. I will definitely go back; maybe even to read.
